Your rate matrix

Settings → Rate Matrix is where you set the dollars-per-inch rates every field-app estimate prices from. It’s owner-only — reps who use the field app to build estimates can’t change what’s behind them.

The base rates

Three numbers anchor the whole matrix:

Base rate — your dollars-per-inch for a removal with full cleanup. Every other cell is stepped down from this one.
Cleanup ratio — how much lower the rate goes for each step away from that removal-with-cleanup anchor (trim instead of removal, or no cleanup instead of full).
Stump base rate — a separate dollars-per-inch number for stump grinding alone. Stump doesn’t step down from the base rate at all; it has its own anchor.

Using the starting numbers every account ships with — a $65/in base rate and a 0.67 cleanup ratio — here’s what the derived table looks like:

The derived rate table

Below the base rates, six cells show one rate for every combination of service (removal, trim, stump) and cleanup (full, none). Each cell is labeled derived — calculated from the base rate and cleanup ratio — or override, if you’ve typed a number directly into that cell. Typing a number overrides that one combination only; the other five keep deriving from your base numbers. Clear the field and it reverts to derived.

Multiplier catalogs

Below the rate table, each service has its own list of situational surcharges — Removal multipliers, Trim multipliers, Stump multipliers. These are the toggles you tick per tree in the field app. See Multipliers & price overrides for what’s in each list and how they combine.

Saving creates a new version

Save doesn’t overwrite your old rates — it retires them and creates a new version. Every estimate you’ve already priced keeps the version it was priced with, so changing your rates today never rewrites yesterday’s number. It only changes what the next estimate uses.

What to watch out for

Your account may be running on nobody’s numbers yet. A rate matrix isn’t created until you open this tab and save for the first time — until then, the field app prices every estimate off the same generic starting rates every account ships with, and the tab tells you as much (“Using default rates — not yet saved.”). If you haven’t opened Rate Matrix, your crew isn’t pricing off numbers you chose.

The stump rate doesn’t move with your base rate. Because stump grinding is priced from its own separate number, raising or lowering your base rate has no effect on stump pricing at all — you have to edit the stump rate directly.
